TITLE: School Counselor
CLASSIFICATION: Certified Position
REPORTS TO: Building Principal

- Education and/or Experience: Holds an Indiana School Counseling or has the ability to obtain it in a reasonable amount of time.
- Other Skills and Abilities: Must have a working knowledge of computers and their capabilities. Must have a valid driver’s license.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collects, organizes, and analyzes information about students through records, tests, interviews, and professional sources, to appraise their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality characteristics for educational planning.
- Compiles and studies educational, and economic information to aid students in making and carrying out educational objectives.
- Refers students to social service agencies, special programs, or placement services.
- Assists students to understand and overcome social and emotional problems.
- Engages in research and follow-up activities to evaluate counseling techniques.
- Develops and maintains system for student registration and/or orientation.
- Monitors collection and distribution of grades.
- Utilizes, evaluates, and oversees the maintenance of an accurate cumulative record file for each student.
- Liaison between Prosser and sending schools.
- Oversees the preparations and administration of prerequisite proficiency exams (Knowledge Assessment/Accuplacer).
- Liaison for coordinating dual credits from partner colleges
- Follows and is knowledgeable on school system policy on suicidal ideation.

Performs other related duties as assigned by the administration and/or other designee.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
