TITLE: Interpreter
DEPARTMENT: Student Support Services
PAY GRADE 31: $28.40- $29.51 (based on education and experience)
REPORTS TO: Building Principal / Director of Student Support Services

QUALIFICATIONS: Educational Interpreter Certificate for Indiana, or Indiana Interpreter Certificate, or National Interpreter Certification, or National Association for the Deaf Levels 3, 4, and 5 certification.
- Education and/or Experience: Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and a minimum of two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Transliterates and translates instructional directions to students in individual and small group settings and facilitates communications between teacher and student.
- Works with students in Resource Room and main-stream settings.
- Assists students with study activities and in carrying-out assigned aspects of the individual education plan (IEP).
- Assists with closed captioning where available.
- Provides interpretation for ISTEP and other standardized or classroom tests.
- Reports on progress of student toward IEP goals to teacher of record.
- Assists with teaching appropriate social behaviors.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with teachers and students.
- Attends meetings and participates as member of educational team.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
